Classification groups
Para-Badminton is divided into 6 groups according to disability. WH1 wheelchair players with major trunk disabilities, WH2 wheelchair players with minor trunk disabilities, SL3 standing group with lower limb disabilities above the knee, SL4 standing group with lower limb disabilities below the knee, SU5 standing group with upper limb disabilities and SH6 standing group of small stature players.
Rules of each group
The rules of para badminton are based on the rules of badminton. All groups play 2 winning sets to 21 points. The net measures 155 cm. The court dimensions differ for wheelchair groups WH1, WH2 and standing group SL3.
Wheelchair players WH1 and WH2 play singles on a wide half with no space in front of the service line throughout the game. The serve is shortened to the back service line. In doubles, the same rules apply as for able-bodied players, except that it is an error to hit in front of the front service line throughout the game.
Standing SL3 players play a long wide half to the net. When serving, players receive on the long narrow half. Doubles is played according to the badminton rules with no further rule adjustments.
Standing players of groups SL4, SU5 and SH6 play according to the badminton rules without any further rule adjustments.
